I haven’t been quite as excited in some time about discovering a new clothing line, or in this case two lines, and the two designers who are creating them. Raag (formerly Raga) and Yavi were recently started by two female artists; one from France, the other from India. They use their combined skills as painters and dyers, and create beautiful fabrics that combine and sometimes layer Japanese shibori techniques with print transfers of their paintings. The result is something I’ve never seen before and is quite spectacular. Their fabrics are whisper thin silks, silk and cotton blends, cupra rayons, and soft merino wools. The shapes are loose, drape beautifully on the body, have a romantic feminine feel, and are excellently tailored. If that wasn’t enough, they are affordably priced as well. Their focus is on long, mid-calf, and tunic length dresses, blouses and shirts, and wool coats that are full of design detail. Almost all have side pockets, many have exquisite pleating on the front or back of the bodice, and buttons are covered in silk or rayon as a finishing touch. I look forward to introducing our customers to this gorgeous line which has just arrived in our shop.
